Acupuncture for Low LibidoTraditional Chinese medicine views that the Kidneys are the main organs associated with controlling the reproductive system. In fact, the Kidneys are divided into left (yin-female-moon-water) and right (yang-male-sun-fire) with different aspects allocated to each of them.

Commonly the mechanism contributing to a lowered libido in women is a deficiency of the left Kidney. In these cases the fluid like yin energy being insufficient causes a dryness that affects the sex drive. When the vagina is dry there is not enough yin fluid to react to the sexual desire.

The herbs used in treating yin insufficiency have a moistening like nature and from a modern bio medical perspective many of herbs used to treat lowered libido have been shown to influence hormones associated with reproduction.
