Open Monday to Saturday, and just 500 metres from the CBD, The Acupuncture Clinic – Masterton is located at 49 Church Street, Masterton.
The aim of The Acupuncture Clinic is to provide the public an efficient and professional service utilizing acupuncture, moxibustion and traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
Acupuncturists Mike Yin and John Kennedy are based at The Acupuncture Clinic – Masterton.
John Kennedy founded the name “The Acupuncture Clinic” and opened the Masterton clinic in 2001. Since being there the practise has steadily grown and regularly receives referrals from local doctors and other health care providers. John has a particular interest in wellness and health care prevention which led him to research specific supplements that can enable the body to stimulate its own release of stem cells and thus improve health at a cellular level.
John’s philosophy of the Acupuncture Clinic has always been to provide the public with an efficient and professional service utilizing acupuncture, moxibustion and traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
After meeting Mike Yin, John was eager to have Mike help him with his busy work load in his Masterton practise.
Mike Yin didn’t need much convincing to move out of Auckland where he had been since 2016.
Mike Yin comes from a strong family medical background. His grandfather and mother were both well recognised ophthalmologists. Mike was encouraged to follow the family medical tradition in this field but he had a yearning to go back to the roots of medicine and decided to study Traditional Chinese Medicine instead. He went onto obtain a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Shanghai and then a Master’s degree in acupuncture from Tianjin. His hospital experience involved him working under a number of classical acupuncture masters and was able to gain valuable experience in Tui Na, which is a specialized system of Chinese massage used in the rehabilitation of injuries.
In 2016 he moved to Auckland and started practicing acupuncture and soon fell in love with the New Zealand culture and its people. Towards the end of 2016 he was invited to come to Hawkes Bay to appear on a talk back radio show with Ken Morrison and Heiko Lade on Radio Kidnappers. Afterwards he travelled to the Wairapara and met John Kennedy of The Acupuncture Clinic – Masterton. The rest is history and now Mike works in Masterton with John Kennedy.
Mike has become a keen networker and is regularly seen at many different Masterton business groups including the Chamber of Commerce and Business Network International (BNI) as well as being a member of Rotary.
He receives regular referrals from doctors and allied health care practitioners and uses his back ground of medical training to advantage. Mike says “Modern science has made terrific in roads in diagnosis such as using x-rays and blood tests which I can then utilize to enhance my acupuncture treatments”.
People often inquire if Mike specializes in any specific condition or ailments. He says “I specialize in being a generalist and will tackle any problem or condition. I enjoy treating chronic conditions because Chinese medicine excels in being able to break down seemingly complex symptoms/conditions into smaller more manageable parts. This means we can work through the smaller parts to bring a positive effect to the whole person”
The Acupuncture Clinic – Masterton is open Monday to Friday as well as Saturday mornings. Occasionally Mike travels to Hastings, Wellington and Hamilton to help out other acupuncture colleagues but is hoping to regularly take off Wednesday afternoons to play golf, once he finds a partner to tee up with. If John has his way however, Mike will have to learn how to surf and accompany him to Castle Point.
