Open Monday to Saturday, and just 500 metres from the CBD, The Acupuncture Clinic – Masterton is located at 49 Church Street, Masterton.
The aim of The Acupuncture Clinic is to provide the public an efficient and professional service utilizing acupuncture, moxibustion and traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
Acupuncturist Mike Yin is based at our Masterton Clinic.
Mike Yin comes from a strong family medical background. His grandfather was a well-known specialist in ophthalmology based in Tangshan City and his mother continued the tradition also becoming an ophthalmologist based in Qingxian. Mike was encouraged to follow the family medical tradition in this field but he had a yearning to go back to the roots of medicine and decided to study Traditional Chinese Medicine instead. His studies led him to obtain a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Shanghai and then go on to a Master’s degree in TCM from Tianjin. His hospital experience involved him working under a number of classical acupuncture masters where for example, he was able to gain valuable experience in Tui Na, which is a specialized system of Chinese massage used in the rehabilitation of injuries.
In 2016 he moved to Auckland and started practicing acupuncture. He soon fell in love with the New Zealand culture and its people. Towards the end of 2016 he was invited to come to Hawkes Bay to appear on a talk back radio show with Ken Morrison and Heiko Lade on Radio Kidnappers. When travelling down to the Bay, and afterwards visiting Masterton, he soon realized that he wanted to move there.
Mike then convinced John Kennedy of The Acupuncture Clinic in Hastings to help him with his already well established and busy clinic of 15 years.
Mike is a keen networker and is regularly seen at many different Masterton business groups including the Chamber of Commerce and Business Network International (BNI) and is eager to deliver presentations at meetings such as with Rotary and Lions.
He receives regular referrals from doctors and allied health care practitioners and uses his back ground of medical training to advantage. Mike says “Modern science has made terrific in roads to assist diagnosis and referring to x-rays, blood tests and so forth only adds to make my acupuncture treatments more effective”.
People often inquire if Mike specializes in any specific condition or ailments. He says “I specialize in being a generalist and will tackle any problem or condition. The more chronic and serious the condition, the more focused I become. If I don’t have knowledge or experience in something, it motivates me to do extra study and undertake courses. In addition, I have the opportunity to consult with my colleagues John Kennedy and Heiko Lade for their advice”.
Mike works Monday to Friday as well as Saturday mornings. Occasionally he travels to Hastings, Wellington and Hamilton to help out other acupuncture colleagues but is hoping to regularly take off Wednesday afternoons to play golf, once he finds a partner to tee up with.
Acupuncturists at The Acupuncture Clinic are full members of Acupuncture NZ and accredited ACC treatment providers.
