I would like to introduce Corey Waterreus who has been back living in the Bay for 15 years. He has had a long history of training and exercise stemming back to his teen years when he started training Taekwondo.
Over the decades, Corey has trained different styles of kung fu including Wing Chun from the Chu Shong Ting lineage. He has been accepted as a Sifu (Master) in Wing Chun and has been teaching this form of martial arts in Napier for over 10 years. Furthermore, Corey is a keen student of Tai chi and continues to further his skill in this art by training in the Yik Sing Ong Tai Chi lineage in Palmerston North.
Corey’s interest and practice of Tai Chi led him to study qi gong and from there he went on to become a student of Master Dennis Wang from Singapore. With Dennis, he has been learning some Shao Lin arts as well as the Han Yang Ru Yi Gong style of qi gong.
Shao Lin stretching classes
In 2023 he will be holding new classes for the shao lin stretching introduction classes which is recommended as a preliminary to starting the Han Yang Ru Yi Gong style of qi gong.
The Shao Lin stretching classes are held once a week and run over 6 weeks. In this time, the student will learn a group of introductory warm up stretches and the series of the ten basic shao lin stretches.
In addition, during these classes, students will also learn some of the basic introductory moves from the Han Yang Ru Yi form.
These shao lin stretches help activate all the major acupuncture meridians of the body as well the 8 extraordinary meridians. Anyone of any age group can join and are performed at your own level of flexibility.
Once proficient at combining all the 10 shao lin stretches in a row, which will take about 15 minutes, you will be ready to move onto learning the Han Yang Ru Yi Gong form of qi gong.
Han Yang Ru Yi Gong style of qi gong
The Han Yang Ru Yi Gong form of qi gong has been passed on from Grand Master Shao Xing Xuan to his first disciple, Sifu Dennis Wang, who has in turn taught Corey Waterreus.
This form of qi gong is for building health for the individual who practices it as well for people wishing to perform external qi gong healing on others.
Qi gong could be translated as Life Energy Cultivation and involves breathing, focus and gentle movements. Some people refer to it as a moving meditation.
There are fifteen sperate movements as part of the whole form of Han Yang Ru Yi Gong and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
Further training into this form of qi gong can lead to students being able to perform external qi gong healing. In simplified terms, this is when the practitioner can influence the external energy field of the patient and effect their meridians. This in turn then stimulates self healing within the patient.
Here is a movie of Sifu Dennis Wang performing qi gong on Corey removing pathogenic qi.
