There can be many causes of vertigo including cervical spondylosis. Vertigo and dizziness can affect up to 30 % of the population and the incidence increases with age and more women than men suffer from this symptom. Sometimes problems with the inner ear can cause vertigo and there may also be symptoms of tinnitus and nausea. Research has confirmed that acupuncture for vertigo & dizziness helps.
What did the research study find?
As a result of the study, the researchers found that acupuncture can improve blood circulation to the neck and as well as improve cervical spondylosis.
Diazapam or acupuncture?
Diazapam is one of the most frequently prescribed medicines in the world and commonly prescribed for the treatment of vertigo.
Unfortunately Diazapam is addictive and can cause side effects like confusion and depression.
Acupuncture is safe and recommended by the World Health Organization for the treatment of vertigo as well as many other health problems.
Where are the acupuncture points inserted for vertigo?
This particular research was interesting in that the acupuncture points used in the study were located on the abdomen. Traditional Chinese medicine has the view that if the digestion is not functioning efficiently, then impurities accumulate which ancient physicians called “damp”. This damp then hinders the free flow of energy going to the head and causes symptoms like difficult concentration and vertigo.
There are of course many other acupuncture points on the arms and legs that also treat vertigo and are used depending on the cause of the vertigo.
Why do more women than men suffer from vertigo?
Of interest also is the fact that more women suffer from vertigo than men and from a traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic perspective, this is because women lose blood from the menstrual cycle. Women end up with what is called “blood deficiency”. Blood deficiency is not to be confused with anemia which is a more specific because in Chinese medicine diagnosis it is just the iron in blood that is deficient. For many centuries Chinese women have commonly always drunk a herbal brew consisting of dang gui and red dates after the menstrual bleed to nourish their blood and prevent blood deficiency.
Does acupuncture have any other benefits?
Acupuncture can also be used to build up the strength and quality of blood in particular by improving spleen function as the spleen is the organ responsible for making the blood.
The added benefits of acupuncture is that it can improve energy levels, increase muscle strength and deepen sleep all of which can lead to an increased sense of well-being.
