Matt Callison first lectured in New Zealand when he was invited to be the keynote speaker at the New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists Inc annual conference in Hamilton in 2002. Since then, he has presented workshops in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Melbourne and is presenting again at the New Zealand School of Acupuncture and TCM on the 6th and 7th of June. Matt is the President of AcuSport Seminars in the USA and is one of primary lecturers at the Sports Medicine Acupuncture Certification Program in the United States.
Free Lecture for students of NZSATCM Friday 29th May 12:30 -2pm
Matt will be discussing the role of the kidneys and its relationship to the treatment of low back pain. He reminds students of the famous quote:
“A deficiency in the Kidney Qi is the root of all backache.”
This classic quote comes from the Standards of Diagnosis and Treatment (Han Dynasty medical text).
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the strength of the Kidney qi is described to be the strength and integrity of the low back and when becoming deficient, can result in low back pain. This topic will include an anatomical and TCM based discussion on the Kidney’s relationship to low back pain and if treating the Kidney’s has an affect on successful rehabilitation.
Matt will also discuss the relevance of understanding and knowing the body from an anatomical perspective and how selecting specific non-traditional acupuncture points can assist with the treatment of back ache. This will include discussion on Motor Points.
This free lecture will also include some hands on practical demonstration. All students of the college are invited but due to limited space, preference will be given to 3rd and 4th year students so be sure to register your place with Marion asap.
